Iphone: After upgrade to IOS 4.1 Wireless stops working after 1 hour

After I upgrade my Iphone 3gs to IOS 4.1, WIFI stops working after 1 hour.
Laptops / Ipads and other wireless devices work fine.
I noticed that friends visiting me with the same Iphone version also had this problem.

I have a Linksys WAG160N. I did some test and finally found the solution.
In the Wireless security tab, the WPA2-personal key renewal time was 3600 seconds.
I changed that to 9999 seconds.

As long as I leave my home-WIFI cloud every 166 h, I have no issues anymore
I hope apple will fix this issue in the new IOS

TM Worry Free 6: Generic failure on source network

Problem :
When I try to update Trend Micro Worry Free 6, I get an error message “Generic failure on source network”

Solution:
Your internet connection is probably routed trough a proxy server with content scanning.
Configure your proxy server. Add *.update.trendmicro.com tot the exlusion list to scan, or disable the ZIP Archive blocking policy from this source.

TM Officescan 10: Port numbers used by OfficeScan 10.0 through a firewall or router

If you are using a firewall or router in your network, you need to allow communication on the following ports:

• Client communication port – a random 5-digit port number set during installation. To determine this port number, check the “Client_LocalServer_Port” parameter in the \PCCSRV\ofcscan.ini file.

• OfficeScan Web console port – depends on the Web site used and if SSL is enabled (see below). To determine this port number, check the “Master_DomainPort” parameter in the \PCCSRV\ofcscan.ini file.

HTTPS ISS: 4343
HTTPS Apache: 4343

Default Web site:
HTTP ISS: 8080

• Smart Scan Server Web console port – uses TCP port 8080.

• NetBIOS ports – uses TCP/UDP port 137, TCP port 139, and TCP port 445.
These ports are used when installing clients via Remote Install and when clients send quarantined files to the server using the UNC path.

• Integrated Smart Scan Server scan query port – depends on the Web site used and if SSL is enabled (see below).

• Standalone Smart Scan Server scan query port – If you are using http:///tmcss, TCP port 80 is used.

• MCP agent (for communication with Trend Micro Control Manager) – uses TCP port 80 on HTTP or TCP port 443 on HTTPS.

MS Outlook 2007: error “This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.”

If you received this error after uninstalling any application that takes over the HTML open command (including, but not limited to, Chrome & Firefox browsers) you may need to change the HTM/HTML association in the registry.

1.Start, click Run, type Regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2.Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html
3.Right click the value for the .html key and select Modify…
4.Change the value from “ChromeHTML” to “htmlfile” (or from FireFoxHTML to htmlfile)

Repeat these steps for htm and .shtml keys if they exist. You may also want to check the xhtml and xhtm keys.

MS Windows 7: prepare a USB storage device as an installation source

To prepare a USB storage device as an installation source for Windows 7, perform the following steps:

1. Connect the USB storage device to a computer running Windows 7 or Windows Vista. Ensure that the storage device has no data stored on it that you want to keep (or that you have moved such data to another storage device) because this procedure removes all existing data.

2. Open an elevated command prompt and type diskpart.

3. At the DISKPART> prompt, type list disk. Identify which disk connected to the computer represents the USB storage device.

4. At the DISKPART> prompt, type select disk X where X is the number of the disk that you have identified as the USB storage device.

5. At the DISKPART> prompt, type clean. When the disk is clean, type create partition primary.

6. At the DISKPART> prompt, type format fs=fat32 quick. When the format is completed type active and then exit.

7. After you have completed these steps, copy all the files located on the Windows 7 installation DVD to the USB storage device.

8. Configure the BIOS computer on which you want to install Windows 7 to boot from the USB storage device. Attach the USB storage device and then reboot the computer to start installation.

TM Officescan 10: Moving clients to another OfficeScan server

Please follow these steps if you want to move the clients using the Officescan web console:Take note of the following information for the other OfficeScan server.

You will need the information when you move the clients.

• Computer name or IP address

• Server listening port

To view the server listening port, go to Administration > Connection Settings. The port number is displayed on the screen.On the web console of the server where you will uninstall the clients, go to Networked Computers > Client Management.

From the client tree, select the clients that you want to move and then click Manage Client Tree > Move Client.

Under “Move selected client(s) online to another OfficeScan Server”, specify the server computer name/IP address and the server listening port of the other OfficeScan server.

Click Move.

Please follow these steps if you want to move the clients using clients registry settings:

Unload officescan

Press start -> run -> regedit
Change this registry settings :

Nokia: Reset the Nokia E70

Here are the instructions to perform a soft or hard reset the Nokia E70:

A soft reset is a reboot of your phone. Your settings remain.
A hard reset erase all your data and brings your device back to factory defaults.( backup first !)

To perform a soft reset:

Type *#7780#
Enter ’security code’ . Default ’12345′.
Confirm by pressing ‘yes’

To perform a hard reset:

Type *#7370#
Enter ‘security code’ , Default ’12345′.
Confirm by pressing ‘yes’

MS Windows 7: Disable User Account Control (UAC)

Here are the 3 methods to turn up, turn down, or disable UAC in Windows 7:

Disable UAC via Control Panel

Go to the Start Menu -> Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Accounts -> Change User Account Control Settings

Disable UAC via Registry Editor

Type “regedit” in the Start -> Search bar.
Go to the following Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem
Locate REG_DWORD: EnableLUA
Set the value of EnableLUA to 0.
Locate REG_DWORD: ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin
Set the value of ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin to 0.
Restart

Disable UAC via Group Policy

Type “gpedit.msc” in the Start -> Search bar.
Double-Click: Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options.
Scrolling to the bottom of the screen shows the following User Account Control Settings.
Locate: “User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode” and modify to “Elevate without prompt”
Locate: “User Account Control: Detect application installations and prompt for elevation” and modify it to “Disabled”
Locate: “User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode” and modify it to “Disabled”
Locate: “User Account Control: Only elevate UIAccess applications that are installed in secure locations” and modify it to “Disabled”
Restart.

MS Outlook 2007: Copy the AutoComplete list to another computer

You can copy the names and e-mail addresses in the AutoComplete list from one computer to another.
Important You must exit Microsoft Office Outlook before starting the following procedure. The names will be included in the AutoComplete list when you restart Outlook.

On your old computer, choose one of the following:
- Microsoft Windows XP Go to drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.
- Windows Vista Go to drive:\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook.
Right-click profile name.nk2, and then click Copy.
On the computer where you want to populate the AutoComplete list, choose one of the following:
- Microsoft Windows XP Right-click anywhere in drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and then click Paste to save profile name.nk2.
- Windows Vista Right-click anywhere in drive:\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook and then click Paste to save profile name.nk2.
If the Outlook user profile name is different on the computer where you are moving the .nk2 file, you must rename the file with the Outlook user profile name that is being used on the new computer, after you copy the file to the correct folder. For example, if you move Arexs.nk2 from the original computer with an Outlook user profile name of Arexs, and you copy the Arexs.nk2 file to the new computer, you must rename the file with the Outlook profile name that is being used on the new computer.
When prompted about replacing the existing file, click Yes.
Open Outlook to view the changes to the AutoComplete list.

Citrix XenServer: Resize Storage Repository

Here is the procedure to resize a Storage Repository in XenServer 4.x and 5.0

In my environment, we use a Lefthand SAN & Citrix XenServer 5.0

First I rezised the volume through the Lefthand Managment Console.
(Right Click on the volume and choose “Edit Volume”)

Problem: The size of the Storage Repository(SR) on that volume in XenServer does not get updated.

Perform the following steps to solve this:

Shutdown all virtual machines on the SR.
Note the Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) of the Storage Repository.
Use the xe sr-list command on the XenServer host and identify the SR by its name label.
Identify the Physical Block Device (PBD) UUID corresponding to the SR.
Use the following command on XenServer:
# xe sr-param-list uuid=|grep PBD
where is the UUID of the SR noted in step 2.
Unplug the Physical Block Device (PBD) corresponding to the Storage Repository.
# xe pbd-unplug uuid=
where is the UUID of PBD noted in step 3.
Plug the PBD.
# xe pbd-plug uuid=
Find the physical volume device SCSI device mapping name on which the SR exists.
Identify the Volume Group (VG) corresponding to the SR.
Issue the following command on XenServer host:
# pvs
The output of this command should be similar to one below:
PV VG
Fmt Attr PSize PFree
/dev/sdd VG_XenStorage-058e9a1d-9b7e-71bc-7a4c-5b78d6e30bcb lvm2 a- 80.00G 38.00G
/dev/sde VG_XenStorage-4684b6c6-be6d-6267-b7b5-834a1fd30f65 lvm2 a- 59.99G 45.99G
The volume groups (VG) are named as VS_XenStorage-.
Using the SR UUID noted in step 2, identify the correct volume group and the corresponding Physical Volume (PV) from the output of the above command.
Resize the Physical Volume:
# pvresize /dev/sd
Scan the Storage Repository:
# xe sr-scan uuid=
The SR size now gets updated to the new size of the physical volume.
Power on the Virtual Machines.
